South-East of the Dominican Republic. La Romana. Punta Cana

In the eastern part of the island, known as the land of the rising sun, are the best beaches with very clear water. UNESCO describes this  beach area as «one of the most beautiful beach areas of the world.» The  wonderful nature, mild climate, all the opportunities for leisure activities in  the open air, the hospitality of the Dominicans turned this place into the best of the tourist areas of the Caribbean. But that's not all temptations in our way …

La Romana

This charming city has grown during the rise of the sugar industry. Around the dens park Duarte, lined up numerous wooden bungalows, all  different colors. On Saturday morning, be sure to visit the local market. To  the east of the city, if you go on the highway, stretches one of the most beautiful agricultural areas of the island: the valley, planted with sugarcane, lemons and oranges.

Bayahibe and Saona Island

Blue, white, green or otherwise — sea, sky, sand and palm trees — that's permanent ingredients Bayahibe — a picturesque village of  fishermen, composed of small colored houses.

If you rent a boat, you can get to nearby island of Saona and visit East National Park — Nature Reserve, which contains numerous species of endangered plants and animals (more than 112 species of birds, sea turtles, pelicans, dolphins, flying fish and local mammals). This park will take you by surprise thickets of vines, which are going down in the sea, they are reflected in it thousands of glare, as well as caves and caverns, where, as the chroniclers tell us, took refuge tired sailors of Christopher Columbus during his second journey; and other wonders of nature.

Parque Tres Ojos

From the Columbus Lighthouse, coming off 21 avenue, one for each state of America. Then avenues are joined to the highway leading to the Las Americas Airport. When leaving on Avenida Las Americas is a park Tres Ojos. The park is a picturesque cave with three underground lakes with crystal-clear water to a depth of 15 meters below sea level.

Boca Chica

Clear water, shallow depth, the smallest white sand, in  short, a paradise for relaxation and entertainment. Already in the thirties famous film actors performed their free time here. Those who are interested in  sports, can choose jetski, sailing yacht or a «snorkel», or to arrange a swim in the lagoons of hot water. These lagoons are formed because of the coral barriers, which protect the bay from the sea waves, turning it into «the largest natural pool in the world.» In a picturesque village with small shops and prestigious marine club hosts numerous international competitions in  fishing. It also originate sea excursion routes to the islands of Saona and  Catalina.

San Pedro de Macorís

This small city Classicism and Victorian style in harmony with the best examples of folk architecture. It leaves the road leading to the cave Maravillas (in Spanish — «Wonderland Cave») — one of the most important archaeological centers of the island. In this cave has remained enigmatic rock  paintings Taino Indians, belonging to the pre-Columbian era …

Higuey

Every year thousands of pilgrims go to the sanctuary of Our Lady of Nuestra Señora de Altagracia, patroness of the island. The temple is  striking in its unusual architecture. Suffice it to mention here that, instead of the bell tower stands a huge cement arch. Nearby is one of the most important churches in the Dominican Republic — the ancient sanctuary of the Virgin Virgen de Altagracia, built in the late 1500's. Before continuing examination of the island, we recommend you to taste the typical dairy dessert of these places, which are served with coconut and pineapple.

Punta Cana, Bavaro and Macao

Lovers of relaxation by the sea gain here a paradise on  earth: 50 kilometers of the biggest  sand, palm trees breezed by light breezes, crystal-clear water. Swimming is available in half an hour after landing at the nearby international airport of Punta Cana. Here are the tourist resorts of the highest level and all necessary for athletes: swimming pools, tennis courts, horse riding along the coast, golf courses and unrivaled conditions for windsurfing around the Macao beach.

Sabana dela Mar

The name of the place in Spanish means «sea savanna.» Here  you can catch boats that hold a course on the lovely peninsula of Samana. Here  as well boat trips start in the National Park of Los Haitises.

Catalina Island and Altos de Chavón

In the horizon one can distinguish one more jewel of the Dominican Republic: Catalina Island, where above all conspicuously absent buildings are : only the purest, unspoiled beaches.

Just 8 kilometers away from the Casa del Campo is Altos de  Chavón, a genuine Mediterranean settlement among Dominican nature. One of this contrast is enough to consider the settlement of Altos de Chavón unique. Renovated in the seventies Italian architect Roberto Copa, this settlement, like the real capital of the arts, accommodates and remarkable amphitheater in  the Greek style, and the Archaeological Museum, dedicated to the ancient inhabitants of the island — the Indians Taino, and shops, boutiques, and art galleries, and even Academy, which in turn taught by the best artists.

From Altos de Chavón the tours depart to the river Chavon, famous for its unparalleled beauty of the scenery. The deep gorges covered with  palm trees and untouched nature create an atmosphere of adventure. No wonder it  was here that starred the famous scene from the movie «Apocalypse Now» and «King Kong».

Juan Dolio

Three captivating beaches one after the other: a small, its  hidden beach of Playa Caribe, calm and relaxing Playa Guayacanes narrow, surrounded by palm trees Playa Juan Dolio. All three beaches feel like a hero postcard! Then, in the evening, you can go shopping in local boutiques and  unique gift shops.
